Back in 1993 when Reese Schonfeld thought up the idea of a Food Network I can’t imagine he ever thought the heights it would reach. Today the Food Network is a staple in everyones TV watching catalogue, so much so that they spawned a new Cooking Channel just to have extra space to put on more shows. The Food Network is responsible for creating the Super Star Chef. They’re the reason people know the names Bobby Flay, Rachel Ray, Emeril Lagasse “BAM!” and so on and so forth. These people are household names and are worth millions of dollars all because they cook food on TV. I could only imagine what the pitch went like back then before we had any idea of what it could be.
Food Network Pitch Reenactment:
Reese Schonfeld: I want to start a network where trained Chefs cook dishes and explain how they do it.
TV Executive: Who is going to star in this?
RS: The Chef that’s cooking the food. They’ll explain the process of making gourmet food in your own home.
TV Executive: Hmm, I don’t get it. Did you see Jurassic Park? I loved that movie, can we add Dinosaurs?
RS: Why would we add Dinosaurs?
TV Exectuive: Why not? I mean I’m not sure anyone wants to watch people cooking food. Can you eat the food?
RS: How would you eat the food through the television?
TV Executive: I don’t know this was your idea.
RS: I don’t think you understand, let me try this again. People love to eat, heck they NEED to eat to survive. You can’t always go out to dinner and most people are getting sick of the same old food week in week out. This network will run cooking shows 24 hours a day. We’ll get trained professional chefs to come on show the viewer their dishes. Give the every-day cook restaurant quality recipes, and tips that they can cook for their families.
TV Executive: So you’re saying my wife will learn how to cook a better meatloaf? I like the sound of that. I mean I loveeeeee meatloaf, but she over cooks it to hell. The only thing drier than her meatloaf is her muff, am I right?
RS: Sir, I wouldn’t know about her “muff”. But yes, along with tons of other dishes. The point is to educate the viewer so that they can cook better meals, and inspire a future generation of chefs.
TV Executive: Hmm, this is sounding better. I still think we need a gimmick, are you sure the Dinosaurs are off the table?
RS: For the last time we don’t need Dinosaurs.
TV Executive: Okay, I’ll green light this for a trial run. As long as you promise me if this bombs we add a Raptor? Maybe a Brontosaurus, they’re vegetarians did you know that? I didn’t until Dr. Grant said so in Jurassic Park. Gosh what a movie. Stunning.
I take away two things from that conversation which almost definitely, probably, most likely didn’t happen…..maybe. One that TV Executives are complete morons, and two Reese knew he had to sell this thing to women. Now I know that comes off as sexist but in 1993 only around 30% of women were in the workforce full time. We’ve come a long way since then but in the initial conception of this Network it was clear who the majority of the audience was.
Now smash-cut to 2015 where the network is a powerhouse. From day one until now there have been a ton of changes, but the one I want to focus on is the change in hotness of chefs/hosts of the shows on air. The level of sexy that is being pumped out by the Network is kind of crazy when you think about it. Beyond just trained chefs we now have legitimate MODELS who have their own cooking shoes on the channels. This is the comprehensive list of the hottest women who are gracing your television screen and making more than just your mouth water. Do-you-know-what-I-mean (Jason Staham voice).
The Hottest Women (& Shows) on Food Network / Cooking Channel
One thing we need to consider for this list is that there will be some what of a bias towards women who became famous through cooking, as opposed to chicks that were famous and have now turned to cooking for more exposure/career extension.

12. Rachael Ray (30 Minute Meals)
About Rachael Ray:
So I’m pretty sure EVERYONE knows who Rachael Ray (46 years old) is by now. Her show 30 Minute Meals is probably the most revolutionary show to hit air waves in the 20 plus years of the network. Rachel has since started her own prime time show called, what else, The Rachael Ray Show on ABC. Rachael is not a classically trained chef and uses very liberally measurements in her cooking which is something people can relate to. While her weight has been an issue throughout her fame, I’ll say this, when Rachael Ray is thin/tone she is sexy as hell. Maybe it’s the laugh, maybe its the voice (Sophia Bush-esque) but there is something about her that gets me going.
About 30 Minute Meals:
Rachel Ray started a show to help busy people make great meals in 30 minutes or less. This was a game changer in the world of cooking television. She made great meals and recipes accessible to even the busiest people in the world. It is a very simple concept, but maybe the best to grace the network.

She was also an early pioneer of online skit comedy and ran a boutique web 2.0 studio. She is loud, has tattoos and loves to talk shit. Hence why Nadia G is on the list.
About Nadia G’s Bitchin’ Kitchen:
The show is basically Nadia being Nadia. It’s colorful, bold food served in a ‘hipster’ way that only a maniac would enjoy. While I can’t say she is the prettiest girl at the ball, she’ll definitely be the one to grab your attention and hold it for a while.

What most people don’t know is that Tia and Tamera are German-born. She has bounced around shows since Sister Sister, but has now found a new home on the Cooking Channel. Tia is obviously great looking and with her new show she is showing us there is more to her then just looks. I want to put her higher, but seeing as she is famous I felt this was a nice landing spot.

7. Lorraine Pascale (How To Be A Better Cook)
About Lorraine Pascale:
Lorraine was a highly successful fashion model in the ‘90s. She fronted campaigns for brands including Versace, Donna Karan, Katherine Hamnett and The Gap. The first British black model on the cover of American Elle, she also worked regularly with Kate Moss, Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell and influential fashion editor Edward Enninful for i-D magazine. But at the start of 2000, Lorraine turned her back on her successful modeling career, deciding instead to pursue her long-term passion for cookery. She enrolled in Leith’s Diploma of Food and Wine course, and learned about every aspect of food. Being that Lorraine is a model she had an un-fair advantage in this game, and hat’s the reason I have her here. She is probably hotter than this rank but you can’t win them all. Either way when Lorraine is cooking, I’m watching.
About How To Be A Better Cook:
The show is basically in the title there. She helps people cook better. Simple.
